Isn't it about time... to get smarter about refugees?

Isn’t it about time the United States got smarter about political refugees? We’re hung up on symptoms instead of disease. The "Immigration Issue" boiling both parties is about effects instead of causes. The US should stop thinking of this country as a relocation destination. We should begin using our facilities and expertise to transform displaced persons into soldiers. America has all the necessary assets: closed military bases; combat-hardened veterans who are homeless and jobless; stockpiled weapons and a command structure. Within eight months the Department of Defense, and the National Guard, could return trained, equipped company-sized combat units to their homeland. We learned how to do this after Pearl Harbor and we can do it again. In fact, our armed forces are participating daily in small unit training with our allies around the world. Certainly we can do the same with our neighbors.

These political refugees did not want to abandon their country. They had to flee or die. Instead of wringing our hands about how to locate refugees, why not move them to "Resistance" camps where they can be taught how to reclaim their country? Isn’t this better than bussing them to New York City? Why not teach them the combat and organizational skills they need to defeat their oppressors? The North Vietnamese taught us how this could be done.

In a Resistance Camp (RC), families can be kept together (the issue of family separation vanishes). Food and shelter is provided. Children can go to school. Medical needs can be attended. Everyone can learn a second language together. The "Wall" becomes the gateway towards "Freedom Training."

This brand of American policy would demonstrate our cultural opposition to oppression in Central and South America. If they truly love their country, every refugee over seventeen years old should want to be trained to participate in the battle for his country. If Americans honestly believe in liberty, why not help political refugees prepare to earn theirs? What have we gained with our current illegal immigration policies?
