Fight for justice

We may be tired and tapped out after a long campaign, or drained and dreading the looming Trump disaster.

But a critically important election remains unresolved in North Carolina, and Republicans are trying to steal it.

The outcome of Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs’ reelection fight could decide the course of North Carolina politics through the 2030s.

So, donate today to support her fight for justice.

Electing Democrats to the court – this year and in 2028 – may be the only way to break Republicans’ unconstitutional, gerrymandered control of the General Assembly and stop the inevitable corruption and abuses of power that ensue.

It may be the only way to assure that the legislature reflects the will of the people instead of Republicans’ lust for unchecked power.

Recounts and county canvasses have shown that Riggs won reelection by 734 votes.

But Republicans are challenging more than 60,000 votes, desperately seeking an excuse for the current court or the legislature to overturn the election.

They’re like Trump in Georgia after 2020: “Fellas, I need 11,000 votes. Give me a break.”

It’s the same anti-democratic (small d), dictatorial bent the legislature showed this week when, instead of helping Hurricane Helene victims, it helped itself to more power in Raleigh.

If Riggs’ victory stands, the Supreme Court will remain 5-2 Republican. Democratic Justice Anita Earls is up for reelection in 2026. Three GOP-held seats will be up in 2028.

If the Democratic candidates stand fearlessly for women’s reproductive rights and for fair elections, North Carolina can get back on the right track.
