With a unanimous vote from the UNC Board of Governors, Peter Hans was named today the next incoming President and there couldn’t be a better choice.
Mr. Hans, a former chairman of the UNC Board of Governors, should have been named President five years ago and our state would have not experienced the upheaval and disruptions we have seen over the past few years.
Peter Hans drew support from Governor Cooper, Speaker Moore and President Pro Tem Berger. He has a solid record of success. As President of our state’s Community College system, Mr. Hans has increased enrollment and worked to provide each local institution with the resources they need to succeed.
The greatest asset Peter Hans brings to the university system is his style of leadership. Peter Hans is a bridgebuilder – a consensus builder. He works with people to bring out the very best in our institutions. Peter Hans is accessible and responsive. Peter Hans is a hard worker who is dedicated to making sure our students get the very best education and is committed to their future and their success.
That commitment means we all win – building a better, stronger economy, stronger community and stronger state.
UNC Chairman Randy Ramsey said Peter Hans will have the support of the board to move our university system forward into the future. “We believe there is no one better suited to lead our university system into the future – even if the future may be very different than the one we all thought it would be six months ago,” said Mr. Ramsey.
Peter Hans is poised to provide long-term, stable leadership for our statewide university system. He knows our state, our people, our politics, our needs and desires. Mr. Hans will be able to carry the weight of leadership and will provide a bold vision that will mark another era of greatness for our students, our institutions, and our state. This is a great day for North Carolina!
