Voucher supporters have file an emergency motion to put Superior Court Judge Robert Hobgood’s ruling halting vouchers on hold until the case is decided on appeal.
“The Superior Court’s action has thrown the educational future of these students into turmoil,” the brief asking for the “temporary stay” reads. The brief also notes that a previous Hobgood order in the case, granting a temporary halt to the Opportunity Scholarships program issued in February, was overturned by the N.C. Supreme Court.
The motion was filed Friday afternoon with the N.C. Court of Appeals. Attorneys supporting the stay are hoping the appeals court will act quickly, although they are under no legal obligation to do so.
