Teachers and taxes

While Governor McCrory and his patrons at the John Locke Foundation were bragging about tax cuts on Tax Day, Republicans in the Legislative Building were digging an even deeper teacher-pay hole for themselves and McCrory.

The N&O’s page one headline said: “Broad teacher raises unlikely.” McCrory proclaimed, “we’re leaving a little extra money in everyone’s paycheck.”

Here’s the rub for the Republicans. Everybody in North Carolina knows the Governor and the legislature shafted teachers. But who really believes they got a tax cut?

Democrats don’t need to overdo this. They don’t need to say: “Republicans cut taxes and didn’t give teachers a pay raise.” They just need to say: “Republicans didn’t give teachers a pay raise.” Make Republicans try to tell people they cut taxes.

Norm Kellly says:

When, exactly, was the last tax cut implemented by the Demoncrats when they controlled Raleigh? When was the last time DemocRATS gave teachers a pay raise when they controlled Raleigh? The FACTS, if ever investigated by libs, will show that Demons CUT EDUCATION SPENDING when they controlled Raleigh. Not just kinda sorta didn't provide as much money for education as they wanted to but actually cut education spending. This last go-round with the budget, did Republicans actually INCREASE spending for education? If so, did the increase implemented by Republicans MAKE UP FOR the actual cuts that had been implemented by DemocRATS?!

How many times in the past 14 years did DEMONS raise teacher pay? For that matter, how many times did the demons increase state employee pay?

So, libs, including Gary, take off your rose colored glasses and start looking at the FACTS. Put aside your genetic predisposition to avoid facts and start writing editorials that reflect the truth. Demons CUT education spending when they were in control. Demons DIDN'T provide pay raises for teachers when they were in control.

What was your reaction when libs controlled Raleigh, didn't raise teacher pay, but did raise taxes, fees, and spent money on things like the tea cup museum and the lake-rated ferry to be used on the ocean? What was your reaction when demons robbed money from the E911 fund to make up a budget shortfall? What was your reaction when the Gov robbed the county sales tax fund to make up for a budget shortfall? What was your reaction when the Demons in control used one-time money to pay for on-going budget items?

Perhaps if the Demons had been more prudent with the budget & finances of the state when they controlled Raleigh, we'd be in a better financial position to have given teachers a pay raise. Possibly?

On another note, how are other states handling paying teachers? How has Illinois handled budget issues? How has California handled budget issues? How have states that continue to be controlled by the Demon party handled taxes, teacher pay, general budget expenses, extended unemployment benefits? Are the proposals put forth by libs in our state similar to the plans implemented by libs in other states? If so, how are those plans affecting those states? Shouldn't we do some research before following YOUR proposals? Will research show that socialist plans/ideas (terms used quite loosely!) are good for the economy, the general population? Or will research into lib ideas show that people are tired of the same old without results? Will research show that those who have the ability to leave demon-possessed areas are actually leaving those areas? Take New York as a perfect example. Not only are wealthy people told they are not welcome there, but so are conservatives. Even though demon plans call for taxing 'the wealthy' to death, they then turn around and disinvite them from the state. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! Does it take intelligence to encourage those who actually pay the bills to move out of your taxing authority? Of course not, but like most plans put forth by members of the democRAT elite, they are doomed to failure before they are implemented.

What's better for ALL CITIZENS, not just teachers? Mostly stagnant wages with tax & fee increases or mostly stagnant wages with tax & fee reductions? Which one leaves MORE MONEY IN MY POCKET? Who earns the money, me or the state? If I earn it, then why do demon politicians believe it belongs to them and they can LEAVE SOME OF IT FOR ME? This is completely backwards. Like most demon 'ideas'.

I am not an Apple person. Wouldn't stand in line for hours, let alone overnight or days. If you are going to charge me absolutely top dollar for a product, which Apple does on every product they sell, but then have the attitude that you continue to own the product, I refuse to buy your product. Apple has denied people the ability to install certain software on 'their product' because they are concerned about the safety/security of 'their product'. Except I PAID FOR IT. Therefore it's my product! What's the similarity between Apple and democRAT politicians? Simple. Believe it or not. Apple believes they own the product forever; demons believe they earned my paycheck and have the responsibility to allow me to have just as much as they deem necessary. Except the demons have it as wrong as Apple. I earned the money. I get to keep my money and you should expect that you aren't going to get any of it at all. Except what's necessary to actually run the state. It's not yours to waste as you see fit on projects that support YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY. It's not your money to spend on government give-away programs to buy votes for yourself. It's my money and you should damn well keep your hands off of it!

Do I believe teachers should be paid a fair wage? Of course. But EVERYTHING must be taken into account, and FACTS must be understood. Do some teachers work more than others? Yes. Are they allowed to get paid more for their efforts & dedication? In the private sector am I allowed to be paid for the work I do or am I stuck working at the same wage as someone else just because we've been employed for the same amount of time? In the private sector, I have the ability to negotiate with my boss, to a certain extent anyway. Does this exist in the ranks of teachers?
