School spending suffered under Democrats

Today, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) released “Revenues and Expenditures for Public Elementary and Secondary School Districts: School Year 2010–11 (Fiscal Year 2011).”

The report provides a snapshot of K-12 education revenues and expenditures for the last two budgets approved by the Democratic majority in the NC General Assembly.

According to the report,

  • Median inflation-adjusted per-pupil expenditures dropped by 3.4 percent between 2010 and 2011.  It was among the largest statewide decreases in education spending during this period.
  • In 2010, North Carolina ranked 42nd in median inflation-adjusted per-pupil expenditure ($8,990)
  • In 2011, North Carolina ranked 43rd in median inflation-adjusted per-pupil expenditure ($8,684)

Again, these figures reflect Democratic majorities in the legislature and a Democratic governor.  The NCES will not provide data that reflects budgets approved by Republican legislative majorities until next year.

Richard Bunce says:

What we need is reform that allows parents to choose the best education option for their children and the resources, at least their own education taxes, to attend the school of their choice whether that is a government school, private school, or home school. Based on its performance the government school system in NC should see its funding reduced and those funds redirected to other options including leaving the tax dollars in the pockets of the parents whose children need education options.

Obviously, the only conclusion that can be drawn from this is that NCES is an organization funded by Art Pope, supported by ALEC, and trying to enhance the image of the Republican majority. It's not possible for any of this information to be true. Democrats do EVERYTHING for the children. Under Democrats, using lottery money, education spending was at an all-time high. Just ask them; they are happy to tell you how they supported spending more & more & more, without accountability, on education.

The only way these numbers can be true is if the Democrats can show that it was the influence of Republicans in the NCGA that was able to amend the legislation to make it look like education spending went up. If they were able to fake out the NCGA Dems, the Dems would have voted for a smaller amount spent on education without knowing it. I'm sure that some left-leaning, "independent" group will be able to document the Republican influence on the NCGA that produced this horrible outcome.

Democrats would never knowingly allow less money to be spent on ANY program, under ANY circumstances. Recent history shows that even when a Democrat-supported organization is proven to be reckless with taxpayer dollars, they are unwilling to take action to correct the situation. Their "thought process" seems to be that even though millions may be wasted, it's just possible that 1 person may have benefited, so it's not right to take corrective action against that organization. After all, their intention was good.

I will wait for an update to this post with corrective information included.

TP Wohlford says:

The teachers / education industry love Dems, no matter what. If the Dems cut their budget is never mentioned. Witness, for instance, the muted response in Chicago as Rohm Emmanuel cut those budgets.

On the other hand, any GOP gov or legislature immediately is castigated -- maybe even castrated -- because they obviously, by their mere presence on planet earth, have cut the education budget, thus consigning the local students to a lifetime of poverty and incarceration. And immediately the protests begin, and the recall petitions are passed. And as was said, a lie will travel halfway around the world before truth gets out of bed in the morning.

But it's not "history" or "facts" we're talking about here. Truth is the first casualty of activism and politics after all.
