Norm Kelly says:
Don't know much about the Rocky Mount Telegram. Don't know if they are an ally of the demon party as the N&D is. But it sure would be nice if the N&D let some truth, honesty show up in their editorials as the Telegram has! There was one time the N&D let slip that the coal ash pond debacle has been an issue 'for decades', but only once. Ever since that slip, they continue to blame the recent Republican voter-created majority in Raleigh. But once isn't enough. Though I don't know the Telegram, I wonder if this is their 'once'.
Let me explain. What is seen almost consistently is the media allies of the demon party blaming Republicans for gerrymandering voting districts. Libs blame Republicans for creating districts that don't properly take skin color into consideration when drawing districts. (once again proving that libs look at skin color first, and nothing else may even be a close second!) Libs believe in segregating black voters into their own districts; the only time libs believe in segregation, but only because it serves their purposes. What did the Telegram slip in? 'just as Democrats refused to give up the power of redistricting in favor of a better plan when they controlled the legislature'. See, demons are only interested in changing the gerry process they used because they are no longer in control. When demons were in control, we all know they refused to give up the power. Now we have a media type telling us the truth also. Wonder if this story will be picked up by any other media type. I expect it won't be long before the Telegram is contacted by someone in the party to 'strongly suggest' that they be more careful in their editorials.
So, once again I say to libs: you first. When/God forbid if, you gain control of the legislature again, then you can propose making the gerrymandering process non-political. Until you prove your willingness to make a change, what is the motivation for the current majority to capitulate to your desire to make the change? Since you refused to even consider this change when you were in control, it's easy to doubt your sincerity in your desire now! Since demons have a history of telling lies to voters/constituents, why should we believe you now? What's your track record on using gerry to your fullest benefit? I know. Will you admit it? Your history using gerry to maintain power/control/authority shows that one of your recent attempts was rejected by the state Supreme Court. This time around, even though Republicans control Raleigh, the newly drawn gerrymandered districts have been accepted. So who is it that tried to do things wrong and were slapped down? Let the existing gerry process continue until demons are put in power by the majority of legal voters, then let's hear what they have to say about changing the process. Until then, let this topic drop. Prove yourself and perhaps we'll start to believe that you are capable of telling the truth! Prove yourself then perhaps we'll believe you are sincere. Until then, we know this is just another political issue you believe you can use to your benefit!

Couldn't you have just said "they did it so it's OK if we do it too." and saved a whole lot of typing?

Richard Bunce says:
No, he also had to point out the hypocrisy of the media who could not be bothered with this issue for the last century... who have no problem with gerrymandering as long as the people doing the gerrymandering are "right on the issues."

Richard Bunce says:
Democrats should be heartened by the fact that the Republican Party gained the majority in the NC legislature in 2010 running in Democratic Party majority gerrymandered districts. Nearly 10 years after the districts are drawn the effect of the gerrymander is diminished due to voting population shifts. The goal of both parties would seem to be the majority in the NC Legislature after the election in years ending in 00.
