Reaping what they sowed

For decades, North Carolina Republicans have been bottom-feeding.
With Mark Robinson, they hit bottom.
Since the 1960s, they’ve opposed civil rights, voting rights and equal rights for anyone who suffered discrimination.
Since Jesse Helms’ first election to Senate in 1972, they’ve appealed to hate, fear and racism.
They’ve trolled the darkest depths of politics.
Every Republican went along, so long as they won.
Now, their willingness to go low may bring them low.
They embraced a candidate for governor who clearly lacked the character required for high office.
They put at risk not only the governor’s race, but also their gerrymandered legislative supermajority, their control of the courts and even the Presidency.
They richly deserve their reward.
