With respect to the Silent Sam controversy Speaker Mavretic said this is war. Someone has to win and someone has to lose. When Lincoln vowed that the Union would be held together it also meant war. One side had to win and the other side had to lose. Why not try to settle the current war with something like this.
Put Silent Sam back in place and erect a statue of Lincoln facing the Confederate soldier with his arms outstretched as if welcoming Sam back into the Union. And put on Lincoln's pedestal the words from his second inaugural:
