According to a press release from House Speaker Moore's office, in spite of continued differences in state budget negotiations, the NC House and Senate have come to an agreement on the state's film production subsidy program. From the release:
Today, the North Carolina Senate and the North Carolina House came to an agreement on a spending number for the NC Film Grant Program. The two chambers agreed to fund the program at $30 million annually over the next two years. This is an increase of $20 million per year compared to the previous budget cycle.
Sen. Micheal Lee and Rep. Mike Davis announced this agreement yesterday evening, both praising the gov't handout as boon to the film industry.
No concern was expressed about the taxpayers being forced to subsidize Hollywood studios, nor the harm done to other businesses and industries forced to compete without the handouts.
