McCrory to business leaders: Go on a recruitment binge

Gov. Pat McCrory says he has faced the same big problem new CEOs face — a wake-up call that general operations need a makeover.

McCrory kicked off Thursday's 2013 CEO Forum at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh. The invitation-only event featured retired Gen. Colin Powell, Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) CEO John Chambers, Quintiles (NYSE: Q) CEO Tom Pike. One CEO called it “the finest and greatest gathering of our C-level leaders” in North Carolina.

McCrory told the CEOs that his moves to shake up operations are a boring problem, accusing the media of being so bored that they are concentrating on sensationalism. Leaders, he says, haven’t thought of the big picture when coming up with policy.

“Often that execution is not thought of when they pass a bill,” he says.

Other soundbites from McCrory:

“All of us in this room need to go on a recruitment binge like we are going after basketball players.”

“We have got to get out of our silos. ... We have got to treat each other as customers as opposed to adversaries.”

“I want you to make money but at the same time I want you to sell the message.”

Johnny Hiott says:

One must ask why McCory would ask a turncoat liberal "Colin Powell" to this meeting ? Powell has done NOTHING to aid this nation since before 2008. Powell would NEVER have achieved the rank he did in the military without Conservative presidents. Everything he supports is destructive to America's economy. Even though I don't particularly care for McCory

I did before now give him a little credit in knowing the type of men that create jobs. With his inviting Powell it tells me he is either pandering to the left or he is an idiot.
