Norm Kelly says:
Government agencies reel against private businesses when they believe the executives get paid too much, have too many perks, take advantage of 'the little people' at the company who don't get treated as well. These same government employees do everything they can to demonize these companies & executives, doing everything and then some to insure these people are terminated by their private business employers.
Yet, allow some government agency to abuse the system just as much, or even worse, and government agencies all over the place come out of the woodwork to justify & support. These same government employees and agencies will do everything in their power to insure that not only will nothing change, but they will add to the abuse of the system. They will prove to taxpayers/voters that THEY are in control and WE are not allowed to keep them in check.
I don't care how good a job this person is doing, how much responsibility this person has, the facts that have come out recently about the Raleigh housing authority proves that this group of political appointees has figured out how to scam the system. IF, and that's a big if, anything is done to get this organization in line, anything is done to get this guys' rewards in line, then either he will retire with full benefits or the Board will remove him, with full benefits and a buy-out plan. Keeping him will cost the taxpayers a lot. Getting rid of him will cost us either more or just as much.
For years, politicians, political appointees, and government agencies have been allowed to do what they want, how they want, with as much of OUR MONEY as they want. There have been a few, darn few, over the decades who have shown abuse and tried to get it under control. What seems to happen though, is that the politicians/government employees have found a way to hide what they are doing and/or the people finding wrong-doing are somehow convinced that the abuse has stopped. So the problem goes away. Except the problem hasn't gone away. And since nothing was really done to those doing the abusing, it encourages those 'left behind' to do more & worse. Knowing that if they are caught, the consequences will be so minimal as to be meaningless. When was the last Obama administration official terminated/fired? When was Mike Easley's administration actually punished for all of their questionable dealings? Who is going to keep the Raleigh Housing Authority in check? Who is keeping an eye on the ABC boards around the state? I know, I know! More government agents & agencies. The same group of people doing the abusing are watching the chickens. And us average folks, who actually pay the bills, are supposed to accept this response. Like believing when the Demons in the NCGA told us they cut the budget to the bone, but spending on stupid c-r-a-p continued to go up. Like the tea cup museum, for one example.

Government bureaucrats... those are the people that need term limits.

Susan Buck says:
I have never seen anyone worth that much money for any job. It's the people who work for him that are actually doing the work. Why not pay them for what they do and cut his cushy pay. What is he doing that extra 30 minutes; planning another party!!!! My tax dollars could be better spent for teacher pay and upgrading the schools. Yes, there does need to be a leader but is he/she really doing any work that is worth that much money?
