But the big controversy surrounded the fact that nobody from the state or the legislature showed up to defend the law. Legislators said Attorney General Roy Cooper’s department should have. Cooper says the legislature should have done so. The Greensboro News and Record says sooner or later the legislature should get the hint and butt out of local issues.
