After SPIN! Video: Should non-profits be allowed to use Government
Published May 5, 2015
After SPIN! - "Question to Joe Mavretic – The Asheville Citizen Times recently did a story reporting a forest fire that affected a large part of Buncombe County near Ridgecrest, a non-profit Conference Center. Fighting the fire cost the county $400,000 but Ridgecrest paid nothing because of its tax-exempt status. The paper raised the question whether it was fair for hospitals, churches, universities and other nonprofits to be able to use government services without having to pay for them. What say you?"

Tom Hauck says:
Thank you for the provocative subject.
I think the nonprofits should receive government services. Many are offering services that save the government money.
If you decided to not offer services to those who are not paying, you could cut government in almost half as most of the costly services are given to people who do not pay "their fair share" of the cost of the services -- SNAP, Medicaid, 12 years of schooling, etc.
