After SPIN! Video: Is there a racial component to judicial district restructuring?

Published February 8, 2018

After SPIN! "Question to Cash and Henry – It’s been 60 years since the judicial districts of our state have been reconfigured to reflect population growth and most folks knowledgeable about our judicial and prosecutorial districts readily admit they need changing. What they don’t agree on is the process our legislature is going through for redistricting those districts. Democrats are incensed that the plan lawmakers has shown will double bunk many Democratic judges, and most especially black judges. Lawmakers contend that they are only shifting judges to reflect where the population and biggest court loads are found. Our fellow panelist Rick Henderson says this is a fight not worth having. What’s your response to these judicial districts."

Joseph Rothengast says:

I've been here for over 30 years and remember when the democrats controlled everything and worked on the district maps and never remembered the problems that the GOP is having. I am also sure that the democrats created the maps for their benefit so am I wrong?
